Mountains Framing the Opening Hole
TPC Las Vegas:
Play Where The Pros Do on Your Next Vegas Vacation.
Posted by: Rick Parnham
The PGA has been part of the Las Vegas golfing landscape since 1983. With a variety of private and casino-based facilities hosting the pros over those decades, it was natural that as the TPC concept of courses was undertaken, that Las Vegas was considered as an obvious location for the development of courses for tour players and events. The opening of what is now the TPC Las Vegas in 1996 saw a new era in the presence of tour caliber golf in Sin City.

Feature Holes Descriptions:
One of the best holes on the entire course is found early in the round. The second hole is a beautiful lengthy downhill par 3 played to a green surrounded by a rock wall guarding the front and wrapping around left to the back. The right side is protected by a fall-away filled with thick rough. The kidney shaped green is protected by a bunker in the indentation, making the back left pin location a most difficult long iron shot. The 5th hole is a mid-length par 5, playing downhill from tee to green. A generous landing area is the target with your drive. Favor the right side by taking aim at the pair of framing bunkers. This will afford you a better chance to avoid the expansive pinching bunker on the left. The green sits higher than the swale in from where you will be hitting your approach and has three distinctive tiers guarded in front by a menacing bunker.
Devilish Canyon Fronting Hole 14
The 14th hole is mid-length par 4 that presents you with a variety of options on your pursuit of par. The dogleg right has OB along the backyards of the houses on the left and a steep canyon all along the right side from tee to green. A bunker in the face of the canyon slope should be challenged to, as this will leave you a much shorter shot into the devilish green complex. The green is positioned on a peninsula between a pair of bunkers collecting anything hit long and the narrow canyon protecting the front. Long or left are your safe bailout options. The par 5, 15th is the longest hole of your round. The safe drive is directed away from the canyon and bunkers protecting the right side. The second shot must navigate a narrow pinched section to get to the landing area for your approach. The green is filled with slope and surrounded by bunkers, while the canyon on the right side strikes fear even with a wedge in your hand.

TPC Las Vegas is a terrific option for those looking for a premier tour-level experience. This creative and varied layout is a certain test for any players. With four tee decks and two hybrid combinations, select an appropriate set for your abilities. This is a very challenging round, so make sure you enjoy the experience. As accustomed with TPC facilities, creative holes and superb conditioning are the foundations of your round. A 20-minute drive from the strip, the course provides a respite from the searing heat in the foothill location. Getting to test your skill where the likes of Mickleson, Furyk, Daly and Irwin have been crowned as champions might be as much of a thrill as a night in the casinos.
