Tidewater Golf Club:
A Quarter Century of Award Winning Golf in Myrtle Beach.
Posted by: Rick Parnham
The Grand Strand of Myrtle Beach is unrivaled for golf options. Building an itinerary can be a difficult task when choosing this immense stretch of Atlantic beach front for a golf get away. A North Myrtle Beach favorite that needs consideration for any trip to the area is Tidewater Golf Club. Opening to critical acclaim, and a host of "Best New" awards in 1990, the course is regularly in the conversation around what are the best tracks in Myrtle.
Daunting Hole 12
This Ken Tomlinson design is located on a heavily wooded spit of land in North Myrtle Beach framed to the north by the Intracoastal Waterway and to the south by House Creek. Surrounded by a tasteful residential community with plenty of acreage between the houses and other holes, this routing gives a secluded feel to the round. Blessed with spectacular water holes blended nicely with inland holes lined with stately stands of southern pines and live oaks, the design has a fine balance of hero holes and strategic beauties. Our shot maker's holes highlight this character found at Tidewater.

Feature Holes Descriptions:
The collection of par three holes at Tidewater is a fierce quartet. The inaugural short hole has one of the toughest greens on the course. Playing to no more than a mid iron for most players this might be the most exacting shot on the course. The kidney shaped green is fronted with three huge bunkers and protected by a hillside right, bunkers back and the tide marsh left. Finding the green is only the first step, as the slopes of the green are devilish. The fourth hole is a beastly par four well deserving of the #1 handicap hole designation. The gently arcing dogleg left plays along a high bluff with a steep fall away to a trench bunker separating the slope from the tide marsh left. A lone tree on the left edge of the fairway tells you the safe play is right of that, but the right side fairway bunkers make the landing area seem almost non-existent. The huge green is surrounded by white sand bunkers and filled with steep slopes making par a supreme accomplishment.
Gorgeous Tidemarsh Setting
The 12th hole plays in the opposite direction from the third. This short hole is a beast playing entirely over water if looking to attack the pin. A tall buttress front to the green makes this shot play longer than the card. Sand awaits anything struck short making for a difficult up and down for par. The safe play is to over club as there is room to miss behind the green. The finale is a hole unlikely to surrender par easily. A sharp dogleg left framed by houses left and a tidal inlet of the Intracoastal right is dotted with tall sentinel pines making shot shaping a challenge. The drive must avoid running through the fairway into the marshes, while the approach must account for trees, water and bunkers to avoid a big number on the card.
