Beautiful Oak Ridges Moraine Setting
Lebovic Golf Club:
York Region's Newest Golf Experience.
Posted by: Rick Parnham
The saturated golf market has seen the building of new courses slow in recent years with an abundance of available tee times already available for golfers. Bucking the trend of course closures or the purchasing and consolidation of facilities by numerous management companies, Lebovic Golf Club presents a brand new option for public and membership play in Aurora.
Located slightly northwest of the Bloomington Rd. exit of Hwy 404, the facility is enjoying its first full season of play. Built on a rolling 150 acre plot of prime Oak Ridges Moraine landscape, Doug Carrick designed a par 70 championship layout uniquely routed, with holes on each side of Leslie Street, with a connecting tunnel linking the sides. "The Loop," is a collection of windswept, links-style holes that sees the first seven holes circling back to the yet to be completed clubhouse. "The East Side," is found through the tunnel and is home to the final 11 holes of the course. Featuring more trees and water, holes on this side of the split creates a feeling of two different experiences. Interestingly, you can play either side, as rates for both the Loop and East Side are available, should you have time for only a partial round.

Carrick creatively used the land he had to shape a solid test mixing a nice combination of length and precision, elevation changes and forced carries in the design . The yardage may not seem lengthy, since the par is only a 70, however don't get fooled thinking the course is a push over. Generous fairways make the design friendly off the tee, while the approaches are considerably more demanding than the tee shots. The slick and deceptive green complexes are the prime defense of the round.
Feature Holes Descriptions:
The fifth hole is a lengthy par 4 playing uphill from tee to green. The fairway is filled with ridges and hollows, making a flat lie tough to find. The approach shot must account for the steep rise to an spacious green filled with plenty of undulation. Getting it close is a must or a two putt par may be a difficult result. The front nine finishes with a brute of a par 4 hole. Again uphill the entire way, the drive must contend with a wide forced carry over a pond and deep grass. Bunkers pinch the landing area and the front of the green. Playing into the prevailing wind, this hole is a stern test with both the drive and approach.
Challenging Slick Greens
The shortest hole on the course is one of the most exacting as well. The par 3, 12th sits seductively in the red pine forest and tempts you with a raised green. The pear-shaped green has a deceptive making the middle the high point. The surface is guarded by pot bunkers in front and narrows toward the back left with a steep fall away with deep, thick rough behind the green. The mid-length 13th is a gentle dogleg right par 4. The tee shot is best shaped left to right, leaving you a mid iron approach. The fairway has humps and swales with a steep false front protecting the opening to the green. A significant cant from left to right and bunkers ringing the surface make the second the most demanding shot on this challenging hole.
