Black Bear Ridge Golf Club:
An Eastern Ontario Must Play Experience.
In the short period of time since its opening in 2005, Black Bear Ridge has risen to the heights of acclaim throughout the golf industry. The facility, located a few kilometres north of Belleville along Hwy 37, has quickly become part of the conversation when talking about the best public facilities in the country. The facility is home to a full practise facility and fun 9 hole academy course. The heart of Black Bear Ridge is the spectacular, parkland-style, championship layout designed by owner Brian Magee. Routed over rolling hills and through thick hardwood forests, the layout has a great mix of elevation change, beautiful views, strategy and plenty of challenge. Noted for its creative design and superb conditioning Black Bear Ridge is an absolute must for anyone traveling the 401 and needing a golf fix. This is time well spent and an experience you will be sure talk about for a long time.

Feature Holes Descriptions:
It was a difficult task narrowing the field to just 4 shotmaker's holes. Oddly, it was the even numbered holes that struck a chord on my visit. Hole Six is mid-length Par 4 that strikes fear with a sprawling bunker in the middle of the fairway landing area. Hammer a drive to clear it, lay back and be safe or be unlucky and have a 120 yard bunker shot for your second into a well protected, kidney shaped green. Pick your poison. Number 8 is an outstanding short Par 4. The hole can be played two ways; reachable with a perfect drive over the pond or requiring precision to avoid the massive fairway bunker at the dogleg making club selection and shot shaping a premium. The 12th is a guts and glory Par 4 leaving little room for error. The narrow fairway is guarded on the left by water and on the right by a thick tree line. Your approach to the shallow and wide green site must clear a fronting pond faced with a rock wall. Number 16 is an uphill beauty. The slight dogleg right plays to a green perched high atop a hill and guarded by a cavernous bunker in front. The preferred left side of the fairway has a pinched landing and bunker that must be avoided to have any chance at a well deserved par.
