Whistling Straits - Irish Course:
Risk and Reward Amongst the Dunes.
Most know of Whistling Straits for the beastly Straits Course along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. What many don’t know that next door is a kinder, gentler sister course. The Irish, is a unique and challenging, inland links-style experience created by Pete Dye. Built to add an additional 18 holes to the facility and opened in 2000, the layout has a nice blend of water holes, links-style dunes and a few tree lined holes mixed in. Playing over a more varied canvass, The Irish is a little more forgiving but presents a different set of challenges. Numerous crossing creeks and hidden greens make this layout a wild ride from start to finish.

Feature Holes Descriptions:
The Irish course is filled with dramatic visuals and a wide variety of character. One of the common characteristics is found in the long holes. Each of these three-shoters can be played many ways depending on your abilities and courage. The fifth, called Devil’s Elbow, plays as a dogleg right is guarded by vast waste bunkers protecting the landing areas. Hole 8 requires you to negotiate a wide creek filled with jungle on your way to the uphill green site. Fourteen is a terrific hole for decisions. A crossing creek teases you at the 100 yard marker, tempting you to go for it in two, but needing to avoid the minefield of bunkers on the right side of the hole. The home hole meanders in what seems like every direction from the tees adjacent to the large pond down into the wooded valley and back up to the elevated green site.
