Eagle's Nest Stretch

Eagle's Nest Golf Club: Richmond Hill, Ontario

Doug Carrick has transformed this former quarry in the heart of suburbia into a fescue framed, dramatic, links-style, challenge featuring massive mounding, enormous sand traps and elevation change. Here is our Eagle's Nest "Stretch."

Hole 3             Par 4  326 – 450 yards

A stunning vista presents a tee shot you won’t soon forget. A spectacular elevation change leads you over 2 guarding traps to the fairway’s slight dogleg. With a forced carry of 220 yards you need to select the best line to avoid all the trouble long and short of the target area. Negotiate your way to the short stuff and you are still in need of a mid-iron well stuck to an enormous green. With fall-offs around the putting surface a missed approach will surely get punished with a tough up-and down.  Don’t leave it short in the pot bunkers or par will be a dream.

Hole 4            Par 4  292 – 400 yards

This slinging dogleg right gives you a great chance to score with a risky tee shot over the deep bunkers on the inside corner of the dog leg. Hit it well and you are left with a mid iron to a raised green faced with enormous, deep pot bunkers on the left and a steep false front to repel anything hit short. The safe route left will play much longer making this a true risk-reward hole. Played into the wind, an extra club might be the play to avoid the lurking trouble.

Hole 5            Par 3   125 – 191 yards

A pure beast, this par three is an all or nothing tee shot over fescue and sand. A long iron with a little left to right ball flight is ideal. If the wind is howling your ball will get pushed right for sure. The large green is figure eight shaped with steep fall aways where the green pinches in. A back right pin is perched atop a small outcrop. Getting anywhere near this with your tee shot is a small miracle. This is a fitting end to this gorgeous “Stretch.”
