Kane Country Club Stretch

Kane Country Club: Kane, Pennsylvania

Getting the chance to enjoy a century old golf club like The Kane Country Club, located a beautiful 2 hour drive south of Buffalo in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains, is a welcome change of pace back to another era of golf. Small, sloped greens with gently rolling fairways framed by stately hardwoods define the layout. For character, a railway comes into play on 2 of the holes on the front-nine. A beautiful early summer round playing alongside Head Professional John Rook while he shot an incredible, career best 64, lead to uncovering the “Kane Stretch.”

Hole 12             Par 4 302 – 374 yards

At the signature hole, perched high on the tee you are faced with a decision. The fairway is guarded by a rock formation and a large pond. Distance control and placement is critical to setting up your mid to long iron over the water to an elevated green. Take one extra club on the approach to avoid the guarding cavernous bunker front right. Only 2 well struck shots will give you any chance to begin this stretch with success.

Hole 13            Par 4 284 – 376 yards

This challenging par 4 plays slightly uphill from the tee. It requires a well struck drive to thread between the large pond short right and another further down the left side. If you lay back of the water a long iron or hybrid is needed to get to this green surrounded by trees, and rocks. As with all holes at Kane, the best place to be is below the hole and putting straight uphill. No easy feat when trying to shape an approach to this putting surface.

Hole 14            Par 3   154 – 176 yards

A beast of a hole, playing uphill and protected down the right by thick woods, this one shoter needs a steady nerve and pure swing to get home. The large green has a severe back to front slope that tempts you to hammer your long iron to a back pin, but don’t go long or you risk the bunker and a tricky shot to get close. Center green and a 2 putt will do you well to close this demanding “Stretch.”
