Hammock Beach: The Ocean Course
Nicklaus' Signature Along the Atlantic Coast.
The Atlantic Coast of Florida is home to a wealth of great golf experiences. At Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Harbor, Jack Nicklaus has brought the ocean golf experience to life. Opened in 2000 as a Nicklaus Signature design, six holes have stunning vistas along the dunes and spectacular beachfront of this gorgeous resort complex. Located on-site a few steps from your hotel room many of Nicklaus’ trademarks, stern doglegs, generous driving areas and tricky green sites abound at The Ocean Course. Ever-present ocean breezes make this course a real test due to elevation changes and challenging green sites. The finishing holes on both nines are lengthy beasts that require brute force to scare par, but it is the short holes that will strike fear in your swing.

Feature Holes Descriptions:
In the shadow of the magnificent oceanfront resort towers, the course flows with a gentle welcoming feel until you arrive at the tee of Hole Four. A small, well guarded green is tucked behind a large pond playing entirely down the right side and front of the hole. The optimal play is a high cut to avoid the water, bunker and steep fall off at the back. Number Eight is the first of the holes that give you a feel of the ocean breezes. This Par 3 plays best down the left with a high cut to avoid the steep fall off right and punishing bunkers. A miss short left might be the best play to provide a chance to roll up a chip close. The 11th is a shotmakers dream, a short par 4 playing over water to a seemingly mile wide fairway with a perfectly placed bunker in the middle to tempt your courage. The second shot is just as challenging forcing a carry over the pond again to a narrow green with plenty of slope. Another short, precise Par 4 awaits you at the top of the dunes on the 16th tee. A dogleg left with bunker and pond to carry, this tee shot must be finessed to the fairway, maybe causing you think more about club selection and placement than the sounds of the waves crashing into the beautiful beach behind you.
